BT Speak just keeps getting better. The October update brings even more ways to connect, create, and control your experience. From faster file sharing to smarter email and expanded keyboard support. Let’s explore what BT Speak can do now!
Your File, Now a Message
Composing an email is more convenient than ever. You can now send any file directly from the File Browser as an email message. Want to write a quick note to Mom, reminding her how much you love her? Send a recipe to your friend in Tokyo? With BT Speak's editor, a bit of file browser magic, and a quick trip to Desktop mode, you're mission is accomplished.
Whether you’re typing in Grade 2 Braille or plain text, just open the File Browser, select your file, and press E for email. BT Speak will automatically use the file’s contents as your email body, so no need to copy and paste. Then, you'll have the option to complete the email with all your usual fields like recipient, CC, subject, and attachments.
Files in .BRF or .BRL format are translated to text on the fly, so your message reads perfectly. It even respects you're braille table setting. You’ll still have the option to review and send it in Thunderbird.
Writing and sending an email has never felt more seamless.
BT Speak Goes Full USB
File transfers just leveled up. With the new USB Storage Mode, you can connect BT Speak directly to your computer and transfer files as easily as with a flash drive.
Just enable it from Options, then BT Speak Management, then Advanced BT Speak Management, and finally Enable USB Storage Mode. BT Speak will mount its Public folder as external storage.
You can then move files between your computer and BT Speak's /Public folder without needing Wi-Fi. This new feature is perfect for quick backups or offline transfers.
A few notes:
Works on Windows and Linux, but not yet on Mac.
Disable Secure Shell and File Sharing before enabling USB mode to prevent conflicts.
When finished, press Enter to exit USB mode before resuming other BT Speak features.
A Clean Bill of Connection
If your Wi-Fi seems sluggish or unreliable, BT Speak can now tell you why. The Wi-Fi Health Check reports your connection’s signal strength, network name, speed, and latency, so you can pinpoint weak spots or interference in seconds.
No more guessing whether your router’s too far or why YouTube is not working. WiFi Doctor to the rescue!
Caps Lock Is the New Chord
External keyboard users, this one’s for you. BT Speak’s QWERTY mode has been redesigned around the Caps Lock key, turning it into a special modifier for over 30 intuitive commands.
Need to check the time? Caps Lock + T. Move by word in the editor? Control + Left/Right Arrow. Jump by paragraph? Control + Up/Down Arrow.
It’s faster, more natural, and feels right at home for anyone who loves a full keyboard. You’ll find the complete command list in the QWERTY Keyboard Help File.
Smooth Roads Ahead for Google Drive
We’ve tuned up Google Drive integration so your searches are more accurate and files don't get missed:
Shared files now appear more reliably in results.
Entering a folder from a search result now correctly lists all contents.
General performance and sync stability have been improved.
Smooth, dependable access to your Drive is exactly what you need.
The Subtle Art of Stability
This update also includes dozens of refinements behind the scenes. One particularly sneaky bug that occasionally inserted stray characters when pasting Braille text has been fixed.
Combined with minor stability tweaks across several modules, BT Speak now feels snappier and cleaner than ever.
Final Thought: From Email to USB, BT Speak Just Works
Whether you’re sending messages faster, moving files the easy way, or navigating with a QWERTY keyboard, this update keeps BT Speak’s promise alive: to work the way you do.
From powerful features to subtle polish, October’s release is all about making your BT Speak more capable, more connected, and more you.
Because yes, BT Speak can do that now.
