Yes, Your Braille Computer Can Do That Now! – June 2026

One of the most rewarding parts of developing BT Speak and BT Braille is watching them evolve from simple note-taking and communication tools into powerful daily companions for learning, productivity, and accessibility.

The June 2026 update introduces improvements across the entire system, from reading and navigation to email, speech, storage management, and even Morse code training. Here are a few highlights.

Can I finish my sentence?

Sometimes you don't want to move line by line, you want to move thought by thought.

In this month's update, you can now move by sentence throughout the editor and file viewer. Jump to the previous sentence, move to the next sentence, or have the current sentence spoken with dedicated commands. Continuous reading has also become smarter. Instead of sending large blocks of text to the speech engine, BT Speak and BT Braille now read sentence by sentence, resulting in a more natural listening experience.

Even better, you can move backward and forward by sentence while continuous reading is in progress, making it easier to review information without losing your place.

No Mode Changes Were Harmed in the Sending of This Email

For many users, email is one of the most important daily tasks.

Until now, sending an email from Blazie Mode required a brief transition into Desktop Mode so you could instruct Thunderbird to complete the sending process. With this update, that extra step disappears.

Compose your message, choose Send, and your device handles the rest automatically. Thunderbird opens behind the scenes, assembles the message, sends it, and returns you to Blazie Mode when the job is finished. If something prevents a message from being sent, you'll be informed and given the opportunity to investigate and complete the process manually.

The email composer itself has also received significant improvements, including better form navigation, email address validation, multiline message editing, and an improved attachment browser.

Dear BT, Here's What I Really Think...

The email composer in Blazie Mode has received one of its biggest upgrades yet.

Email composition now uses a standard form interface, making it easier to move between fields and review your message before sending. You can navigate forward and backward through fields using familiar Tab and Shift+Tab commands, while built-in email validation helps catch formatting mistakes before they become delivery problems.

We've also introduced a new inline editor for the message body. You can now write naturally across multiple lines, using Enter to start a new paragraph just as you would in a traditional editor. Attachment selection has been updated with an improved file browser, making it easier to find and attach the files you need.

For Braille users, the message editor also supports switching Braille grades while composing, providing additional flexibility when writing longer messages.

Together, these changes make composing email in Blazie Mode feel more natural, more powerful, and much closer to a full-featured writing experience.

Dialing In the Perfect Voice

The Speech Controls page has been completely redesigned into a full menu system.

Speech rate, volume, pitch, punctuation, key echo, word echo, and other settings are now organized into a familiar menu interface while preserving the shortcut commands longtime users already know.

We've also added a new "Speak Numbers" feature that lets you choose how numbers are announced. You can have numbers spoken normally, digit by digit, or automatically recognized as phone numbers and similar numeric sequences.

For users who rely heavily on speech throughout the day, these changes provide greater flexibility and make speech settings easier to discover and adjust.

Dit-Dah! We've Got New Tricks

The Morse Code app has received one of its largest upgrades yet.

In addition to playing Morse code from custom text, you can now load and play entire files in Morse code. We've also added a new guessing game that plays a character and challenges you to identify it correctly.

Adjustable tone frequency and words-per-minute settings make the app more useful for both beginners and experienced Morse code enthusiasts.

Whether you're learning Morse code for the first time or keeping your skills sharp, the app is now a much more capable training tool.

Tab Is Your New Best Friend

We've introduced new form navigation commands across many Blazie Mode applications, including Phonebook, Calendar, and Email Composition.

You can now move forward and backward between fields using familiar Tab and Shift+Tab commands, making it easier to review information before saving or sending it.

This creates a more consistent experience throughout the system and should make data entry significantly easier.

Where Did All My Gigabytes Go?

We've continued improving the tools that help you manage and maintain your device.

This update includes:

  • Improved SD card detection and mounting

  • A new command to detect removable storage without restarting

  • A new Reclaim Space command for cleaning logs and caches

  • Faster startup and shutdown performance

  • Enhanced diagnostic information for support purposes

These changes make BT Speak and BT Braille more reliable while reducing the need for troubleshooting.

Good Things Come in 20 and 40 Cells

BT Braille users will find a number of enhancements focused on battery management, power handling, and Braille display behavior.

Battery reporting now includes more detailed information, including cycle count, estimated remaining runtime, and charging status. The device can also detect situations where external power is connected but charging is not occurring.

We have also improved sleep and wake reliability, refined Braille display behavior, added charging notifications, and made numerous fixes throughout the user experience.

The Unsung Heroes

As always, many of the most important improvements are the ones you may never notice directly. This update includes dozens of bug fixes, performance enhancements, AI tool improvements, translation table corrections, accessibility refinements, and reliability updates throughout the system.

Every monthly update is another step toward making BT Speak and BT Braille more powerful, more reliable, and easier to use.

Believe it or not, another month down and... your Braille computer can do that now.
