Yes, Your Braille Computer Can Do That Now! – September 2026
September's update was all about connections.
Whether you're controlling your iPhone with your Perkins keyboard, opening files directly from Dropbox, downloading books from Project Gutenberg, or picking up exactly where you left off in a podcast after a reboot, this month's release helps your BT Speak or BT Braille stay connected to your devices, your files, and your workflow.
Your iPhone Has a New Boss
One of the most requested features has finally arrived to BT Braille (and soon BT Speak).
Terminal Mode transforms your BT Braille into a wireless Braille terminal for your other devices. Connect to your iPhone, iPad, Windows PC, or Mac and control it using the BT Braille keyboard while reading everything on the Braille display.
Even better, Terminal Mode works like a background service. You can switch from editing a document on your BT Braille to answering a text message on your phone, then jump right back to exactly where you left off. Your BT Braille never loses its place.
You can pair multiple devices, switch between them with dedicated commands, and even route your connected device's audio through your BT Braille speakers or headphones. It's one of the biggest additions we've ever made to BT Braille, and we can't wait to hear how you use it.
Now You're Talking
Sometimes it's simply faster to speak than to type.
BT Braille now supports real-time offline dictation, allowing you to dictate into virtually any application without an Internet connection. Simply hold R2 and R3, begin speaking, and each phrase is automatically inserted into your document, email, note, or other text field when you pause.
Imagine jotting down a quick reminder while you're on the go, replying to an email without touching the keyboard, brainstorming ideas for your next project, writing meeting notes, or capturing a story the moment inspiration strikes. Dictation works anywhere text can be entered, making it a natural companion to the Perkins keyboard rather than a replacement for it.
Because the speech recognition runs directly on BT Braille, your dictation continues to work even when you're away from Wi-Fi or cellular service. Once you've downloaded the dictation model, everything happens right on your device.
Whether you prefer Braille, speech, or a combination of both, BT Braille now gives you another fast, convenient way to get your thoughts onto the page.
Talk Once. Read Forever.
Dictation doesn't just capture what you're saying now—it can also recover what you said then. Your recordings can now become text.
Select an audio recording and your BT Speak or BT Braille will automatically create a text transcript directly on the device. Whether it's a voice note, meeting recording, or interview, your spoken words can now be transformed into editable text without sending them anywhere else.
It's a simple feature with a lot of possibilities.
Cloud Nine
Dropbox has officially arrived in Blazie Mode.
Browse your files, search your entire Dropbox account, rename and delete files, share links, and edit documents directly from the cloud. Open a file, make your changes in the built-in Editor or LibreOffice, save, and your updates are written straight back to Dropbox.
We've also improved cloud uploads throughout the system. If you use both Dropbox and Google Drive, BT Speak and BT Braille now simply ask which service you'd like to use whenever you save a file.
Your cloud storage now feels like a natural extension of your device.
A Library in Your Pocket
Need something new to read?
This update adds direct access to both Project Gutenberg and LibriVox.
Browse more than 79,000 public-domain books from Project Gutenberg or explore over 20,000 volunteer-read audiobooks from LibriVox. Stream them instantly or download them for offline reading and listening, all without creating an account.
Classic literature is now only a few keystrokes away.
The Show Must Go On
If you listen to audiobooks, podcasts, or music, you're going to love this update.
BT Speak and BT Braille now remember where you stopped listening, even after a reboot or a Deep Escape. Entire playlists and media folders remember not only the current file, but also your playback position, speed, and listening progress.
We've also added queues, saved playlists, named bookmarks, repeat playback, quick time jumps, replay gain, and numerous other playback enhancements.
It's the kind of update that quietly makes every listening session better.
The Right Braille at the Right Time
For Braille readers, we've added a feature that's easy to appreciate once you start using it.
Individual files can now remember which Braille table they use. For example, one document might use Unified English Braille while another uses U.S. English Braille. BARD books automatically open using the appropriate table for that title, and copying between files now intelligently translates text into the destination file's Braille table.
It's another step toward making Braille reading and writing feel seamless.
We Were Busy...
As always, we've packed dozens of improvements throughout the system.
BT Code now manages project libraries more intelligently, EPUB books support headings and chapter navigation, amateur radio call signs can be spoken correctly, AI Chat has been refreshed, calculators regained their advanced functions, backups have been expanded, release notes are now available directly on the device, and countless performance, reliability, Braille, media, and accessibility improvements have been made throughout BT Speak and BT Braille.
September was full of the little refinements that make a device feel dramatically better to use.
