BTSpeak-Stream Help
BT Speak's Stream application allows you to stream audio from YouTube's vast library in the media player as well as access and manage channels you've subscribed to. YouTube is a Google service, so you'll need to log in to your Google account to use this feature. Detailed instructions for logging in are provided in the "Google Authentication" section below.
The application main menu offers three options: Search YouTube Videos, View Subscribed Channels, and Remove Channel (unsubscribe).
When you select Search YouTube, you can search for videos by keyword and stream them directly on BT Speak. After choosing this option, you'll be prompted to enter a search query. Type in your keyword and press Enter. The application will return a list of video titles that match your search, sorted by their publication dates. To navigate through the list, use the dot 4 chord to move down and the dot 1 chord to move up. When you find a video you’re interested in, select it to bring up the Video Options menu. This menu provides three choices:
-
Play Video: Start streaming the video's audio through BT Speak’s media player (VLC). Note that only audio will stream, even if BT Speak is connected to a video monitor.
-
Video Info: View detailed information about the video, including its title, description, channel name, and publication date. Use the dot 1 and dot 4 chords to navigate through these details.
-
More from this Channel: Explore additional videos from the channel that posted the selected video. The videos will be listed by date, and selecting any video will bring up its Video Options menu.
-
Subscribe to channel: Select this option to subscribe to the channel offering the selected video. You will hear a tone if your subscription was added successfully. BT Speak will alternatively display a message if your subscription could not be added for any reason or you are already subscribed to the channel.
Selecting Subscribed Channels will show a list of the channels you’ve subscribed to on YouTube. Choose a channel to view its videos, organized by publication date in descending order. Navigate through this list with the dot 1 and dot 4 chords. Selecting a video will present the Video Options Menu.
The menu option Remove channel (unsubscribe) will display a list of your channel subscriptions. Select a channel with dot 8 and BT Speak will ask you to confirm your option to unsubscribe. Enter letter Y and press enter to unsubscribe. BT Speak will then display a message alerting you that unsubscribing to the channel was successful.
Google Authentication is required to use BT Speak’s Stream application. The first time you use the application, and periodically when Google requires it, you’ll need to log in to your Google account. Here’s how:
-
When you first attempt to use the application, you’ll be prompted to authenticate your Google account.
-
A message will appear saying, "You will now be directed to Desktop Mode for Google login. Press Enter and wait a few moments for Chromium web browser to load." Press Enter and wait approximately 2 minutes for Desktop Mode to activate. Chromium will automatically open to the Google sign-in page, where you’ll be asked to grant BT Speak access to your Google account.
-
Enter your Google login details as instructed. Follow the prompts on the subsequent pages to grant permission to link your Google account with BT Speak. Confirm by selecting the Continue button on the page.
-
Once authentication is successful, BT Speak will announce, "Authentication completed. Returning to application." You’ll be redirected back to Traditional Mode. Press Enter.
-
Your Google account is now linked, and the application will load the function you initially selected.
