February didn’t come quietly.
Just when you thought BT Speak had learned all its tricks…
It picked up a few more.
This February update brings secure remote support, a smarter Radio Tuner, seamless LibreOffice integration, better Google Drive workflows, and clearer coding feedback, all designed to make your device feel efficient, smooth, and more capable.
Let’s explore.
Radio Tuner Gets a Tune-Up 🎶
Your radio just got smarter and more reliable.
We fixed an issue that caused the station database to become corrupted during updates. Now, refreshing the station database works smoothly, and all stations stay right where they belong.
Even better:
After refreshing, BT Speak now announces the total number of available stations so you know everything’s intact.
If something goes wrong while refreshing the database, you’ll hear about it immediately.
And yes… you can now record live radio streams.
While listening to a station, press G to begin recording. Press G again to stop. If playback stops, recording stops too, saving your storage automatically.
Recordings are stored neatly in a RadioRecordings folder inside BTSpeak. Easy to find. Easy to move.
Oh — and ACB Media streams? They’re back and working perfectly.
Open in LibreOffice: Classroom Ready
Students and educators, you’re going to love this one.
LibreOffice isn’t just another app. It’s a full-featured office suite — complete with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, charts, formatting tools, styles, tables, formulas, and more.
It works seamlessly with Microsoft Office files, so you can open and edit .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx documents without missing a beat.
Think classroom assignments. Research papers. Lab data. Lesson plans. Budget sheets. Slide decks.
In other words: real academic and workplace firepower, built right into your BT Speak.
Think advanced formatting with styles and headings.Complex spreadsheets with formulas and data tables.Presentations with structured slides and polished layouts.
Now you can move from Blazie Mode straight into the full LibreOffice experience in seconds.
From the File Browser, simply press L on a file to open it directly in LibreOffice. Whether it’s Writer, Calc, or Impress, BT Speak automatically launches the correct application based on the file type.
Working with braille files (.brf or .brl)?BT Speak translates them into text for editing in LibreOffice, then quietly converts everything back into braille when you save.
This isn’t just about opening files. It’s about having a complete productivity suite at your fingertips.
Smooth. Predictable. Powerful.
Google Drive + LibreOffice: Love at First Sync
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes seamless document integration. Google Drive just got more flexible.
When you select a file with rich formatting, such as.docx, .xlsx, .rtf, or .pptx, BT Speak now asks: “This file has rich formatting. Open in LibreOffice?”
Say yes, and you’re brought to Libre Office in Desktop Mode with the full document experience.Say no, and you can open it in Blazie Mode (or read-only, depending on the file and your preferences).
When you close the document, you’re automatically returned to Google Drive and any changes sync right back.
It’s the best of both worlds: simplicity when you want it, power when you need it.
BT Code Speaks Up: Indentation Made Obvious
Python students, this one’s a game changer.
Indentation isn’t just formatting in Python- it’s structure. It’s how your program knows what belongs inside a loop, a function, or a conditional. And when indentation is off, your code simply doesn’t work.
Now BT Code helps you hear that structure.
The editor announces indentation levels when reading lines aloud, but only when the indentation changes. That means you clearly understand how your code is organized, without extra chatter getting in the way.
Want to double-check your spacing?
Press WH-chord with dot 8, and BT Speak tells you exactly how many tabs and spaces are on the current line.
Whether you’re just starting Python or building bigger projects, reviewing, debugging, and learning your code just became dramatically easier.
Technical Support Gateway: Expert Help, On Your Terms
Ever wish a Blazie team member could just step in and handle something for you?
Now they can, when you ask them to.
The new Technical Support Gateway allows our staff to securely access your BT Speak remotely during a support session. You initiate the connection. You end it. And we can never access your device without your knowledge or consent.
Think of it as opening a door, but only when you’re on the phone with us and say, “Come on in.”
Behind the scenes, it uses a secure SSH reverse tunnel (for the security-minded among you), but what matters most is this: You stay in control and we handle the repairs.
Final Thought: Smoother, Smarter, More Supportive
This update isn’t about one giant headline feature. It’s about refinement. Reliability. Real-world improvements.
Secure remote support when you need it
A stronger, more capable Radio Tuner
Effortless LibreOffice access
Smarter Google Drive workflows
Clearer coding feedback when learning Python
And a handful of important fixes
As always, your feedback drives what comes next.
Because once again…
Yes, BT Speak can do that now.
