YouTube Stream: A Simpler Way to Access the World of Videos

That is exactly what the YouTube Stream application makes possible on BT Speak. It provides fast, direct access to YouTube through a clean text-based interface designed for speed and simplicity.

Built entirely for Blazie Mode, YouTube Stream delivers an experience that is streamlined, intuitive, and distraction-free. Whether you are catching up on the latest tech talk, listening to educational lectures, or following your favorite creators, YouTube Stream turns the world’s largest video platform into an easy-to-navigate listening experience.

Why YouTube Stream?

On most computers, YouTube can feel complicated, full of visuals and graphical menus that are designed for use with a mouse. On BT Speak, we wanted to make it effortless. YouTube Stream focuses entirely on accessibility and speed, giving you only what you need to reach your favorite content quickly. We also removed a lot of the unnecessary clutter to streamline access to the main content.

When you open YouTube Stream, you will find five clear menu choices, each activated by a single shortcut key:

Every screen is designed for chorded navigation and shortcut operation, so you can move through options instantly without unnecessary steps or waiting for pages to load.

Searching, Subscribing, and Streaming

When you choose Search YouTube Videos, you can browse content by keyword and stream it directly through BT Speak. After entering your search term and pressing Enter, a list of matching videos appears, organized by publication date. The results are presented twenty at a time. If there are more results, the Next and Previous options let you move between pages smoothly.

When you find a video you want, select it to open the Video Options Menu. From here, you can play the video, explore the channel’s other videos, or subscribe to that channel. You can also read details about the video, including when it was created, the video's length, and learn more about its creator.

Choosing Play Video begins streaming the video’s audio through BT Speak’s media player. As of the November update, you will automatically be placed in the Media Controls menu, where you can adjust playback rate, skip forward or backward, pause, and much more.

If you choose More from this Channel, you can view other videos from the same creator, listed by date. Subscribe to Channel lets you add the channel to your personal list, confirmed by a short tone once successful.

Managing Your Subscribed Channels

Selecting View Subscribed Channels shows a list of all the YouTube channels you have subscribed to. You can browse these channels, explore their newest videos, and stream any of them instantly.

If you want to clean up your subscriptions, use Remove Channel. BT Speak will show your list of channels, and when you select one, you will be asked to confirm. Press the letter Y and Enter to unsubscribe. BT Speak will confirm the removal with a message.

Playback Controls Made Simple

Once you begin streaming, you are brought directly to the Media Playback Controls menu. This is where you can fine-tune playback exactly how you like it. You can change the playback rate, adjust the volume, skip ahead, rewind, or check how long the video has been playing. All controls are handled through simple shortcuts, so everything stays quick and consistent.

Signing In with Google

Because YouTube is a Google service, signing in with your Google account is required. The first time you use YouTube Stream, and occasionally when Google requests it again, BT Speak will open a browser window so you can log in. Once you are signed in, your subscriptions are available automatically and you can begin using YouTube Stream right away.
